Getting Ready

MeCandyBoxesToy on the Floor

I’m looking forward to this Friday’s event at FM Station! I’m doing all I can to get everythingready. It reminds me of setting up the Dreams of the Ego exhibit. It was the most exciting thing in the world to me! I had a chance to show my work after all the time and patience I had put into my artwork. The late nights and frustrating hours of mistakes along the years had all paid off. When I got the keys to the small humble gallery, I was on top of the world!

I spent a couple nights working on arranging everything. It was quite simple and came together easily. I had prepared well along the way. I was worried that I wouldn’t have enough work to fill the space but I actually ended up having extra work. This allowed me to select and show the best of what I had. I needed all  the time I could get to finish sorting out the gift bags and candy I put out on the table with wine and beer. There were a total of 50 bags which all had a 3″ Dunny and a few other goodies!

Thank you to everybody who helped with Dreams of the Ego!

Waiting for Printing

Blank Shirts

Last Friday I got the blank shirts delivered to my door and I also got the flyers printed! Today I dropped the shirts off at the silk screeners and I’ll have the finished shirts in a couple days. You’ll see the finished product on Friday.

Showcase Party

Cream Showcase

I’m excited about my first official CM t-shirt! There will only be 30 shirts in total. Its a small run so they may not last long. Try to be there early if you want one. There’s also a limited set of prints which I’m actually still working on. The set consists of four 5″x7″ prints.  And of course, I have a couple of new paintings to display.

So Little Time

I’ve been working on a few new things. I have projects sketched up that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time! There’s so many ideas and so little time. I have ideas for new custom sneakers, my own wooden toy figures, and a new lowrider car sculpture. But as long as I’m not lacking ideas and motivation, I’m happy!

Although things seem to be moving a bit slow, I am getting things done. I’m working on a show at FM Station, Tucson’s only real streetwear shop. Check the link on the side bar. Prince and I are planning on releasing my first CM t-shirt and some new paintings at his nicely arranged, boutique-style shop. It’s at 845 E. University Blvd, next to Pei Wei. He has some awesome designs of his own as well as some of the flyest streetwear brands out there. It’s fly as hell, you should definitely check it out!

My exhibit there will be Friday, April 24. I’ll post details and previews soon!

An Organized Mess

This is what the gallery looked like when I was done setting up. I want to show more pictures of what each painting looked like and show how I put each painting, toy and sneaker together! Every piece was a story of difficulties and problem solving for me. Promise to show you more soon!

New Business Card

I’ve been wanting to print new cards for a while but had a hard time deciding on how to arrange the information. Then I was advised to start a blog but couldnt come up with a name! Now that I have things moving, I settled with this simple layout.

Dreams of the Ego

Flyer

Saturday, June 7, 2008 was a big day for me! The weeks prior to it were quite nerve-wracking, but it was all worth it. I always carried a sketchbook, loved to work with colored pencil and was starting to paint custom sneakers. After about 4 years of painting in acrylic, I decided to have my first solo show!

It all began from a small vision of creating a few pieces and inviting some friends over to hang out. I wanted to build a body of work as a foundation for doing bigger things with an idea I had been working with. CREAM was a title for my bright colored, vanity-inspired paintings(more on the title in later posts).

What started as a small party at my apartment became an exhibit at a downtown art school. Later, after some advise from my highschool art instructor and friend, Simon Donavan, I found a gallery to exhibit my work. The Art Incubator, at the time, was a new galleryspace intended for rising/aspiring artists. No lie, it was cheap! And the small space was perfect for what I had in mind!
